Leisurely

After some light early morning rain, the skies cleared as twenty-three walkers set off from Cawthorne Village Green. We passed the parish church and followed the steep lane down into the village before heading towards the park. In the formal gardens, we diverted briefly through Fairyland to see the recently renovated plunge pool. Continuing uphill, we reached Cannon Hall for a group photograph, then completed our circuit of the park, passing the Deer Shelter and descending to the lakeside for another photograph on the footbridge.

18 members enjoyed the Thursday walk. The first half of the walk around Treeton Dyke was mostly in sunshine.  Soon after the drinks break the rain came down for a while, with one person repeating, "We need it."  Which is very true. Refreshments were taken at the Robin Hood in Aughton.

19 of us set off from the Alma, passed undeniably the best chip shop in Sheffield (Tony's) walking along the moss valley towards ford bottom for a welcomed hydration break! We continued through Eckington woods, passed the seldom seen house that we have seen a few times (but we missed it this time as we were too busy chatting, so on this occasion it was seldom seen!) then up the dreaded gas house lane for refreshments and brownies back at the Alma! Thanks to all who came, we've had a lovely, leisurely walk in glorious sunshine (despite the hill!). Thanks for the back markers, Ian and Dave! 

23 walkers left the Sitwell Arms in Whiston on a hot sunny morning and marched across Whiston Meadows via the footpath opposite the pub. We passed Blue Mans Bower on our right where local legend has it plague sufferers were sent in the middle ages. We then came to the River Rother and paused beneath the shade of the motorway bridge for hydration.

On Thursday morning 10 members of the Rotherham branch of the legion (minus Beau Stuart who was excused because it was hot) set out across the trackless wastes of Treeton. We skirted round Treeton Dyke where we stopped for a hydration break just short of Hail Mary Wood. We then cut up the hill via Rother Crescent and Pit Lane, we then climbed Spa Hill where we stopped for refreshments. We then crossed Well Lane and followed the River Rother back to Treeton Lane and back to where we started. There was then a mass exodus to the Robin Hood pub for further hydration. My thanks to all those walk
