Cawthorne & Silkstone Circular.

Trevor Ledger. This is a little longer than our usual Thursday walks. However, I’ve shortened the route from what I normally do to approximately 6.5 miles. To compensate for the additional distance, the route is mostly flat, with just a couple of gradual uphill sections. There are only two stiles, as the gates alongside the others were found to open. IMPORTANT, Please note: there are some unavoidable sections of roadside walking, including one short section without a pavement. Other sections have a footpath, including two longer stretches alongside the very busy A635 and part of the Silkstone Waggonway. For this reason, anyone intending to bring a dog with them is strongly advised to keep it on a lead throughout the walk. The walk passes the Barnby Basin, where the former Silkstone Branch of the Barnsley Canal terminated.
