On a cold, yet bright, early‑spring morning, 24 walkers gathered at Hade Edge near Holmfirth. We set off along Dunford Road before crossing a playing field and descending via a lane and an unmade track that led us past Holmestyes Reservoir. From there, we began the steepest climb of the walk: a narrow, wooded path rising sharply beside the valley. A brief pause at the top allowed everyone to catch their breath before we continued for a short stretch along the Kirklees Way. After skirting the head of the valley, we began the long, steady ascent through the woodland section of the route.

On a glorious spring morning, 26 of us, including 2 new members, set off from Langsett Barn car park. Clear blue sky, gentle breeze, perfect. We made our way over the dam wall and up through the hamlet of Upper Midhope, then along Thickwoods Lane to North America Farm (used by tanks for target practice during WW2). Turning left, we headed up on the open moors to cut gate path junction, where we had our tea/coffee/snack break with superb views over the valley.

Thanks to all 22 who turned up for one of my favourite short walks. The forecast wasn't good and it was raining when we set off. Starting from Cote Green car park we passed through Thurgoland tunnel on the TPT then dropped down to the river Don by which time the rain had stopped. Then on past the 'fish pass' and the old mill near the weir where we had our coffee/tea break. After crossing the river we made our way up through the woods to the delightful Ivy Millennium Green Communal Garden in Green Moor village.

Despite the gloomy weather forecast, 25 ramblers turned out for a walk which was changed from the scheduled one due to relentless mud. Surprisingly, the weather stayed dry throughout. We started from Ravenfield church along good paths to Firsby hamlet and then on to somewhat muddier paths around Firsby reservoir. The intention then was to take the higher path around Ravenfield ponds but this became an out and back detour to avoid a steep and slippery descent. Overall,  the paths were as good as could be expected given the amount of recent rain. Thanks to Annie for back marking. Refreshments

There was a change to the walk because of the mud and I didn't fancy slip sliding all the way, so myself and 21 (usually) all weather walkers set off from the Elm Wood farm pub towards Rother Valley via the TPT. Although very cold the weather was ok, until we got river side! The wind picked up, the rain came down (and sideways) despite it being so damp, we didn't have much mud to contend with! Absolutely drenched we took shelter and elevenses next to the cafe! Shelter and toilets!

We welcomed 3 new walkers to our club today. I hope they enjoyed the walk and the company. 30 of us set off from the car park off Churchfield Lane, we headed out of the village past the old church, onto Clayfield Lane then past the Round House. Turning left off Cortworth Lane we passed Cortworth House on our way to Hoober Stand. After a very brief history lesson from me we headed towards our coffee/tea break stop at the Needle's Eye (and another short history lesson). It was a calm day with blue sky to start with, turning misty later but no rain.

Twenty hardy Ramblers set off, for our first Thursday walk of 2026, from High Street, Apperknowle, heading northeast past the airfield towards the small hamlet of Greenside. As we crossed fields toward Troway, we encountered the first of many stiles, some trickier than others, especially in the icy conditions. From Troway, we headed across the side of the Moss Valley, passing through fields and woodland before emerging onto a lane that led us towards Coal Aston. After a short coffee break, we skirted the edge of Coal Aston and descended into the Drone Valley through Frith Wood.
