On a beautiful sunny day 15 of the walking group set off on a journey from Chatsworth. We stopped briefly in Baslow, carefully negotiated the muddy terrain in Yeld Wood, took a coffee break and then after crossing the busy Sheffield road headed up Gardom's Edge before crossing the A 619. With slight trepidation we crossed the stream via stepping stones, the bridge now being out of commission. From Dobb Edge we had great views of Baslow and the valley that leads back to Chatsworth. After lunch we walked through the wood passing the Hunting Tower and the Cascade waterfalls before returning to the Calton Lees car park. Our efforts on a warm sunny day were rewarded by cool refreshments at the "George and Dragon."

Wickersley Circular
My walk on Thursday went from Whiston through Wickersley took approx two and a half hours. The weather was kind. There were 19 and dog. Thanks to Donna for back marking. We retired to The Sitwell, sat in the outside in the sun. Thanks to all who came.

Wyming Brook, Rivelin Lodge, Tofts, Nether Gate, The Flash, Ronksley Hall Farm, Swinglee Farm, Wyming Brook Drive
There was a black cloud over the 15 people who set off from Wyming Brook, accompanied by rave music from somewhere on the moors. We crossed the brook, 3 brave members via the stepping stones and 12 via the bridge. By the time we had a break over Lodge Lane, the rain never materialised and the rave music had ceased. We completed the ridge walk past Hallamshire Golf Course and descended into Rivelin prior to climbing the hill to Nethergate.. Due to the warmth of the day, a water stop was taken here. We then took the ridge walk and came down to the end of Rivelin Dams. Rain started at the top and continued until after lunch, which was taken down by the river. The Sun emerged as we took the path back to Wyming Brook, providing a lovely finish to the walk up by the waterfalls, allowing plenty of photo opportunities. Refreshments were taken at the Malin Bridge to recharge our batteries.

Wentworth walk
There were 7 of us on my walk starting from the Gun Park car park near Wentworth Woodhouse main entrance gate. The weather was perfect - 14 degrees, slight breeze and high clouds. We made our way along Cortworth Lane, turning left up past Cortworth Lodge, on to Street Lane then up to Hoober Stand. We stopped for a tea/coffee break there and enjoyed great views on this clear day. Then we made our way to Upper Haugh, zigzagged on fields and paths down to Nether Haugh. We took another break there, with views overlooking Greasbrough and the 3 dams. Next stop, the Rockingham Mausoleum, then down the fields to the main path and a steady incline to the magnificent Wentworth Woodhouse east front. We arrived back at the car park at 12.50

Longshaw Circular Froggatt Edge, Curbar Gap, White Edge .... then a little bit extra
Thirteen hardy souls set off in the rain with more dark clouds hurtling towards us. It wasn't looking good.But the next belt of cloud passed over and we took our break at the stone circle on Froggatt Edge. We then made it to Curbar Gap after a couple more light showers. Then up on to White Edge where it was quite breezy with the odd light shower. We found a quiet hollow for our lunch stop then made our way down over the A625. There were great views over Hathersage and Bamford on the 'little bit extra' of the walk which overlooks Padley Gorge.A big thanks to Peter for back marking and Tracy for being our 'official photographer'.Refreshments were taken at the George & Dragon, Holmesfield.

Creighton Wood
It was a lovely sunny morning when 24 walkers set off from Warren Vale and under the A633 to continue through woods towards Swinton. At Piccadilly we followed the path by the stream to Creighton Woods to cross the road to the car park at Swinton Pottery ponds where a short break was taken. Onwards to Newhill and through fields to Wath Golf course where golfers kindly stopped to let us cross on the public footpath. Further fields and woodland took us back to the start. Refreshments and food was taken at the Gate Inn at Swinton.

Bradwell Circular
There were twenty of us set off from outside the Church in Bradwell. In addition, there was one 'strag' who set off to do his own thing! It was "wall to wall" sunshine throughout the walk but with a cool breeze.
We ascended Bradwell Edge, some quicker than others, and crossed Abney Moor. We sat on a grassy bank for elevenses overlooking the Hucklow Glider field, where they were preparing for take-off. Glider preparation seems to take a long time but just as we set off, so did the Gliders.
Down to Great Hucklow, onto the old lead mine workings at High Rake and Tideswell Rake, we stopped here for lunch, the buttercups and wild orchids made a magnificent sight!
Onward to the much feared 'bullock meadow'! They were there, we took the long route on the main track in order to keep our distance, but they were placid and took no notice of us, lounging in the sun perhaps?
The rest of the walk was through meadows with an abundance of sheep and lambs, then back down to Bradwell.
Replenishment fluid was taken at The Travellers Rest, sat outside still in the sunshine!!

Whiston/Ulley Circular
This Thursdays walk was the Whiston and Ulley circular. The turnout was tremendous; 24 I think. There were 3 new people we had not met before, so welcome Jean, Simon and Lisa; we hope they enjoyed the walk. The walk turned out to be longer than the original calculation; I'm not saying how much longer! Many thanks to Donna for volunteering to be back marker, you did a sterling job.
After the 'extended' walk many of us retired to the Sitwell Arms for a well earned drink.

Ashford in the Water, Great Longstone, Cressbrook Dale, Monsal Head
9 of us arrived to walk the walk starting from the carpark in Ashford in the Water. The weather started off fine until about 12 midday and then it poured down for about 1 hour. Then after the rain Mr. Sunshine came out. (Post nubila Phoebus) The countryside was looking its best, it was so green; glossy in the rain. Ashford had its annual flower festival and well dressing day, so the village was very busy, providing a lovely atmosphere. Refreshments (for some for a number of hours) were taken at the George and Dragon in Holmesfield.

Thorpe Salvin
Nineteen of us gathered in the Parish Oven car park in Thorpe Salvin for our leisurely Thursday ramble. We had two new starters in the group, Jean and Laura so welcome. It was a cold, gloomy start but the weather improved as the day wore on and despite all the rain yesterday, the route was relatively mud free. There were some interesting and lovely sights along the way. A Spitfire and a Thunderbird anti-aircraft rocket on a lawn in Lindrick (allegedly Ron Hull's house) and a swan carrying two cygnets on her back on the Chesterfield Canal. Magical. We all got back safely to the pub, despite a minor detour by the back markers. Refreshments were taken in the Parish Oven.
