13 of us set out from Laughton en le Morthen under gloomy skies. We were anticipating inclement weather but it seems the so-called experts got it wrong again and it remained largely dry. Most of the fields on the first part of our journey had been ploughed up leaving bare earth and evidence of the very dry summer. Our journey involved some road walking but there was almost no traffic as we headed towards Roche Abbey. On the way we passed an area where I believe the Saint Leger was originally run, or at least what was an early form of the race. Coffee break was taken at the remains of the Cistercian Abbey before we headed towards the outskirts of Maltby and then on through woodland to the hamlet of Hooton Levitt. A short journey through fields took us to Carr where lunch was taken. On reflection it was perhaps not the best of places I could have chosen as we were right close to a dung heap. The final part of the walk involved the path and road down to Brookhouse before a short climb up the road took us back to Laughton. Many thanks to all of you coming on the walk and as ever making it an enjoyable experience for me. Again Roy proved his worth as backmarker. Refreshments were taken at the "Travellers" in Brookhouse where we had the benefit of the back room all to ourselves.
